Library Policies
Library Card
The Booth & Dimock Memorial Library makes library cards available to town residents so eligible patrons can borrow materials from the Library's collection and use Library resources.
Internet and Wi-Fi
Desktop computers with internet connection and wireless internet are available for patrons to use. The Booth & Dimock Memorial Library does not monitor and has no control over information accessed and sent through the internet and cannot be held responsible for its content. Filters are not used by the Booth & Dimock Memorial Library to restrict access to information on the internet.
The Library has computer workstations designated for children and teens. Minors are welcome to access the internet on the Library's computers and Wi-Fi, but library staff, including staff specialized in youth services, do not act in loco parentis. Staff cannot enforce rules of the family, or monitor or restrict any minor's use of technology or the internet.
Internet access is provided with the understanding that it will be used in an ethical manner for educational, recreational, and informational purposes only.
Daily Fines
In an effort to cut down on lost materials and the incumbent cost of replacing them, the Board of Trustees is instituting a daily fine of 50 cents for videos and 10 cents for all other items. The circulation period is 1 week for videos and magazines, and 3 weeks for most other items. Materials may be renewed in person, by phone, and online.
Photo Release
The Booth & Dimock Memorial Library reserves the right to photograph and videotape program participants. These photos and videos may be used for Library publications and publicity, including web page and local access cable. Notify Library staff if you do not wish to be photographed.
Social Software
Social Software is defined as any web application, site or account created and maintained by Booth & Dimock Memorial Library which facilitates an environment for library staff and library users to share opinions and information about library related subjects/issues. The Library recognizes and respects differences in opinion. Comments, posts and messages are welcome and will be reviewed before publishing. However, the Library will not be responsible or liable for content posted by any subscriber in any forum, message board, or other area within the service.
By posting content, the user agrees to indemnify the Library and its Trustees and employees from and against all liabilities, judgments, damages, and costs (including attorney's fees) incurred by any of them which arise out of or are related to the posted content. Forums and messaging may not be used for commercial purposes or for organized political activity.
If any user does not agree to these terms, they are not to use the service as violation of the terms can lead to legal liability.
Program Attendance
For programs for which registration is required, library staff reserves the right to reassign a seat if the original patron is more than 10 minutes late.
Patrons who repeatedly fail to attend programs for which they have registered, may be refused admittance or placed on waiting lists for future programs.
Video Monitoring Surveillance Policy
The library’s video surveillance system shall be used only for the protection and safety of customers, employees, assets, property, and to identify persons breaking the law or violating the library’s Code of Conduct. No monitoring shall be done on the basis of race, color, religion, age, sex, marital status, gender identity or expression, natural origin, genetic information, past/present history of mental disability, ancestry, mental retardation, learning or physical disabilities (including but not limited to blindness), sexual orientation political belief or criminal record or any other basis prohibited by federal, state, or local law. Video cameras will be located on the exterior of the library building and parking lot. They shall not be positioned in areas where there is a reasonable expectation of personal privacy.
The system will be secure and will only be viewed by those authorized to do so. The Library staff, in the course of their normal duties may monitor and operate the video security system. Images from the Library surveillance system are stored digitally on hardware in the Library and accessed remotely, via secure connection, by the Library Director in the event of burglar alarm or other notification of suspicious activity.
It is the intent of the Library to retain all recorded images for a minimum of 14 days as space allows, after which Recordings are kept in accordance with the state library’s approved records retention schedule, unless required as part of an ongoing investigation or litigation.
When an incident occurs on Library premises:
All requests for security camera footage or still shots will be referred to the Library Director. Only the Director or Director’s designee shall be authorized to release any video record to anyone other than an Authorized Employee, including, but not limited to, law enforcement personnel, media, patrons, and other persons. The Library has the right to confer with legal counsel before complying with any such request and MAY exercise that option.
Video records may be used to assist law enforcement agencies in accordance with applicable state and federal laws upon receipt of a subpoena. The requirement of a subpoena may, however, be waived by the Director when appropriate.
Confidentiality/privacy issues prohibit the general public from viewing security camera footage that contains patron information. If the library receives a request from the general public to inspect security camera footage which contains patron information, the general public will be advised to file a police complaint.

- Video records may be used to assist law enforcement agencies in accordance with applicable state and federal laws.
- Video recordings of incidents can be retained and reviewed as long as considered necessary by the Library Director.
- Images may be shared with other Library staff to identify person(s) suspended from Library property and to maintain a safe and secure environment.
- While it is recognized that video surveillance will not prevent all incidents, its potential deterrent effect, and resource as a means of identifying and prosecuting offenders is considered worthwhile.
